Before Monday 8th April 2024 – You need to watch any programs you have downloaded using this application onto any PC or Mac. The application is being shut down by BBC.

Even now, BBC have discontinued this application’s ability to download from their website any new programmes from their site onto your PC or Mac – for watching later. This is because they say that supporting iPlayer for Windows and Mac is too expensive for the numbers of people using this method of downloading (ie. via a computer of any kind).
So even today, you can only download programs and watch them later using a device which uses a BBC iPlayer App – such an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet. Some televisions may support the use of BBC iPlayer downloading for playing later, but you will need to check.
You can still watch programmes as they appear on the website, with the ability to pause and resume and go back.
I am personally greatly affected by this decision as I liked to use the time connected to a high-speed connection to download TV episodes of Casualty (formerly also Holby City too when it was still on), and also some nature programmes, to my laptops which have the capacity to store many programme episodes.
None of my portable devices have the capacity – let alone the screen size – to support downloading or watching television. I wasn’t planning on changing my television or video setup either!
